Merino wool, which has a closely spaced crimp, is very soft and versatile. It can be spun to create a fine woollen yarn using the long draw or a worsted yarn using a short draw. This makes it perfect for creating delicate items such as lacework, as well as thicker pieces like crochet and knitting projects.

Our Ashford Merino sliver is a 100% New Zealand product that is sourced from the wool of pasture-fed sheep in our high country sheep stations. We have built a strong relationship with our farmers, some of whom have been farming the land for generations. They take great pride in the quality of their wool and the high standards of animal husbandry they maintain. Our sheep are well taken care of and are not subjected to mulesing.

AfOnce the sheep are shorn, their wool is carefully examined and sorted on the farm. Only the wool that is deemed sound, clean, with good fiber length, bulk, and color is selected. It is then transported to a boutique mill in New Zealand for the carding, combing, and dyeing process. The wool is washed with an environmentally-friendly, biodegradable detergent that complies with EU regulations and then dried and dyed using dyes that also meet strict EU standards. Garments made from this wool can be Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, which is the most widely recognized certification for ecologically-safe clothing.
